Pardada Pardadi Educational Society, (PPES), based in Anupshahr in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, India is at the forefront of improving the lives of girls in this deprived region. It’s mission is to set in a process of rural development through empowerment of girls/ women from the poorest section of society.

Pardada Pardadi translates directly into English as “great grand parents”. We are using the phrase Pardada Pardadi as an analogy for the ancient Indian wisdom of knowledge and education, which helps in the full blossoming of an individual.
PPES’s definition, of gender empowerment is social empowerment plus economic empowerment. On the same lines PPES runs a school called Pardada Pardadi Girls Vocational School (PPGVS). It provides value based education and vocational skill training to girls.

Girls are trained to produce fine hand embroidered, machine embroidered linen, appliqué work and block printing which can have various uses, along with table covers, luncheon sets, bed covers and sheets, curtains, gift items( like photo frames, trays, dairies, coasters etc.) , and cushion covers. All these products are produced on the basis of demand from the marketing department of PPES.

Marketing department is responsible for understanding the trends and fashions , guiding PPGVS in setting up vocational trainings, designing, procurement and marketing of the products.

PPES hopes that this interweaving of education, production and marketing will lead towards sustainability of the model and rural community at large.
